The Voices of Our Generation...

"...and do you feel scared? I do. But I won't stop and faltar. And if we threw it all away, things could only get better"

In preparation for our move I am cleaning out old drawers with old-school cd's in them. As usual I'm burning the midnight oil (no pun intended) listening to them. It's fun.

Who can name the singer above?

Swish buckler

Hi guys. Hope everyone's well. We had Megan down for the weekend and had a good time at the beach with her. It was my first time back in the sun after nearly burning the flesh off my legs on our last day of the cruise but it was cloudy enough that I didn't really get any sun.

Also, I took Courtney to see the latest Pirates of the Caribbean yesterday and I definitely think I am in the minority here by saying this (considering that it set a new record with its HUGE opening gross) but the truth is, I hated it. Seriously hated it. I mean, we're not talking some run of the mill "mild distaste" or anything like that. No, we're talking full bore, "see you in hell" hate. Watching Johnny Depp prance and preen around in his wierd "Captain Jack Sparrow" routine of his is like watching some tired, slightly drunk, middle-aged drag queen in a John Powers movie. And that stupid accent of his...I cannot tell you how annoying it is. Plus, the plot had so many starts and stops that I couldn't help but think that it must have gone through a dozen rewrites before Bruckheimer finally said "fuck it, nobody's gonna care anyway" and just filmed it.

I do think I spend entirely too much energy bashing movies that everyone else seems to like on our fair weblog here, so I won't say any more. If you want to go see it, don't let me stop you. Just don't blame me if you end up barfing up your popcorn.

Rating: one beer (and it's not even cold).

Grant Edward Bizjack

Hey Dudes,

FYI, my Sister-and-Brother-in-Law just has their second baby boy: Grant Edward Bizjack. He is 7lbs 13oz, 17" long. They are all doing great!

Not much else is new up here. We are trying to catch up on some R&R before our busy time approaches. It's looking like we will be closing on our house the last week in July. Since we are having our own hardwoods installed after closing, we won't be able to move into the floored areas (which is basically everywhere downstairs except for the master bed & bath) until Aug 19th.

We will move most things into the garage until we're ready. This hardwood floor process is a long one! The final product will be worth it though. I can't wait to get you dudes up here. You'll see it when you come see your new niece.

Right now Natalie and I are recovering from a bout with pink-eye. She's doing better. I actually still have it. The computer screen looks blurry right now because the medicine is an uncomfortable greasy ointment that you have to put right on your friggin eye-ball!

Anyway, Cheers maties!

Checking in from Flawda

Good morning, all. Thought I’d check in from here in the lovely Sunshine State. Here’s what’s going on in Coopbro One’s corner of the world.

As y’all know, I have had Courtney with me here since the “crooz.” I was hoping that she would have made friends with kids in the neighborhood but so far, no luck. It’s funny, but I used to see girls who looked to be Court’s approximate age all the time before the summer but now they’re all nowhere to be found. We go to the pool and all we see are teenagers and kids who all look to be 6 or younger. Oh well, she’s still having a good time. I’ve got her in a local YMCA day-camp down the street from my office and she’s made a few friends there, so that’s cool. But guys, I tell you, having her with me fills up my heart. I cannot tell you how much I enjoy things like cooking for her and just taking care of her. I have definitely watched my fill of Disney Channel fare like “Suite Life of Zack and Cody” and “That’s So Raven” but I do so with a smile.

My “Big Four-Oh” is right around the corner so and I’m flying Megan in tonight to be with Court and me for the weekend. I plan to just hang out and be with the girls, maybe go to the beach or something this weekend. As for how I feel about being 40, honestly, I think all the emotions about turning that corner are mostly a woman thing because I don’t really feel one way or the other about it. I’m not going to say that it’s just another birthday, because, let’s face it, it’s not. But it doesn’t feel like the end of the world, either.

I told Mikey this already but I have had the hardest damned time shaking this “cruise fat” off of me. It’s like I got into the habit on that boat of eating whatever I wanted whenever I wanted and I have found it hard to get back into my normal routine of eating lean and working out. I have done pretty well this week though and am beginning to feel like my old self again. Hopefully, Mikey, I’ll be able to fit into my clothes again in time for your wedding.

I made comment on Mark’s last post about movies I’ve seen which I’ve liked (i.e., nothing lately). The only thing that I’ve kind of been into is the HBO series “Carnivale” which I’m renting from the local Blockbuster. It’s pretty cool but weird, but then I like that sort of thing. It’s got the guy who played John Conner in the last “Terminator” movie as well as uber-villain Clancy Brown playing the role of an insane preacher. It’s also got the guy who played the dancing dwarf in “Twin Peaks” in one of the main roles. It’s about a traveling carnival and is set in the early 1930s during the Great Depression/dust bowl era. The premise is that magic still lingered in corners of America back then, not to be abolished until, as the voiceover in the pilot episode says, “an artificial sun exploded over Trinity.” It’s cool but weird, so if y’all want to check it out, do so at your own risk.

Last point, addressed to Mike. Dude, I hear your home’s beautiful and I hope to see it when I come back to Houston in about a month. I don’t think I’ll be able to make to any of your bachelor parties, but I will be in then. Hope to see you and Molly then.

Till then, Coopbro 1 is out!
