This weekend

I will be coming into Houston tomorrow to work at the main office for the remainder of the week. Erica and Courtney will come into town on Friday and we'll stay at Mom's house.

Robbie, sorry to hear about the AC. Mom told me that it needs to be replaced and that you're working on getting the previous owner to share the expense with you. I don't know what legal recourse you would have compelling him to do so but I surely do wish you luck in it.

Mark, you've been quiet lately. How are things?

Mikey, great having you over this past weekend! Though it was no fun being humbled by you in pool five games to one, we sure had a good time with you.

Look dudes, are y'all's fingers broken or what? I have made the last six posts in a row. I'm going to rename this fucking thing "CoopBro" if y'all don't start pitching in more.

Later.

Aftermath

Well, though it was like getting out of a banana republic ahead of an invading army, I did manage to get out of New Orleans and back to San Antonio the other night. From here, I watched Hurricane Ivan knock my beloved Mobile on her ass. The storm, after teasing westward for most of Tuesday (prompting the mayor to urge an evacuation of New Orleans) veered back to the east and went right up the eastern shore of Mobile bay. I heard the eye passed right over Gulf Shores, my favorite beach in the world.

I have no idea how bad the property damage is or how many people were hurt in the storm. I do know that both my colleague Dean and secretary Tommye (both of whom hunkered down with relatives in Mississippi) are okay though neither knows how their homes fared.

Lots of digging out to do and mess to be cleaned up. Needless to say, I won’t be going back to Alabama until the power’s back on, which will probably be by next week.

Mikey, congrats and kudos to you for landing the “Paychex” job! Are you going to accept it?

Ivan the Terrible

“In the comedian health wars, you’ll all be pleased to know that, though I lead Richard Pryor two to one in heart attacks, Richard is leading me one to nothing in burning himself up. You see, first Richard had a heart attack, then I had a heart attack. Then, Richard burned himself up, . . . and I said ‘fuck that, I’m gonna have another heart attack!’”
-George Carlin

Don’t know why that quote came to mind this morning. Maybe it’s because I’m sitting here in lovely south Alabama looking at the progress of a very mean sumbitch named Ivan, which is making me ponder the timeless truth of the coward's credo "caution is the better part of valor."

We went through 3 hurricanes in the years we lived here and, believe me, I’m in no hurry to do it again. So, instead of coming home on Thursday evening as is my habit, I think I’ll be coming back tomorrow. Perhaps, as I’m such a chickenshit when it comes to hurricanes, another movie quote would be more apt:

“When danger reared its ugly head,
Sir Robin bravely turned his tail and fled
O brave, brave Sir Robin!”

Old photos are the best!

This is an old picture, from early '03 I think. It's been at least that long since Courtney's hair has been that short. Anyway, it was taken by Eloiza's (Erica's sister) boyfriend, Wes. Wes owns the motorcycle that Courtney sits astride here, too. She looks to be in her element, I must say.

Mikey, it was great seeing you this past weekend! It was also really nice to meet Molly too. Erica and I also really appreciate her offer of advice to Megan about going to college at SWT. Hopefully, she didn't run screaming after meeting us all. Also, LMAO at your post, which I didn't read until I got back to Alabama. For what it's worth, I hope you were successful in gettin' your O-face on!

Robbie, I'm looking forward to seeing the beachhouse sometime but this past weekend was just too busy for us. Will do so another time.

Mark, hope you and Natalie have a great time in Mexico!

I'll try to post from there, but if not I'll see you dudes here when I get back (on Thursday).

Later,

Mark

Last day at Discovery Resource

Well guys this is it.. My last day here at DR. My bosses were on to me about searching for another job and asked me about it Monday. Instead of putting it off, basically I told them I was in the job market. They understood my reasons but obviously couldnt keep me on till i got an offer. The good new is though, I really feel like im going to get 3 offers from Paychex, DHL, and the houstonian. I could totally sell myself on all three so I'm just waiting to get the offers from them. The Houstonian sounds really intresting but they wouldnt want me to start untill October. If I want that I might have to accept another job for the mean time just to pay bills. Wish me luck guys. Anyway untill then, I dont know when Ill be able to sign on for a while. Ill see James and Rob im sure this weekend. Yall will get to meet my new intrest too. Shell be in town, things go right.. Ill be showing her my ohhh face! OHHH, OHHH you know what I mean.. OHHH!! later.
