Checking in

Hey guys...and gal,

Jenn, welcome to our little cyber boys club. It will be a welcome respite from James' delerious rantings about post WWII neo socialism and it's effect on the pigmy population in New Guinea.

Just don't go all Martha Stewart on us with recipes, household cleaning tips and new oragamy techniques, OK?

Now, back to me. The beach house escaped that Rita bitch, relatively unharmed. There is some minor flooding in the down stairs bedroom and storage room and two feet of sand has piled up on my driveway. Fortunately, I have a friend with a tractor with a front end loader, so we should have that problem handled in about twenty minutes. Then, I plan on gouging my neighbors if they need sand removal. LOL. I'm going down on Thursday night to asses the damage.

We evacuated Houston on Wednesday night. I only thought we had a rough trip, until I way what the people who tried to get out on Thursday had to go through. We went to Arkansas, which is normally an 8 hour drive. It took us eleven hours, to get half way. I was very lucky that I booked a hotel room in Marshall, TX, so we had a bed to sleep in on Wednesday night.

James, I will try to resell the tickets on stubhub.com. If not, then we will take them to the stadium on game day and scalp them. Keep in mind that you and Mark are still on the hook for $105 each,,,Beotch!

Para nuestra prima

Jennifer, as long as you're reasonably certain that no one else you know or currently work with reads this weblog, fill us all in on the happenings at Centex as well as your plans and ambitions that we discussed while I was there.

Also I, uh, need the recipe for that rice dish of yours.

One final thing. As the newest member of our little club Jen, you're going to have to cook, clean and do our laundry. You see, if we were in Germany, we'd have to do all this for you, but we're in Italy. Regulations, y'know.

update

Hello out there! Jennifer wonderful, as usual, to hear from you. If you didnt know, I accepted a job in medical sales with Johnson & Johnson! I've been doing just fine here the past few weeks doing my home study. Its been rather boring actually doing modules, reading anatomy text, sales books etc. Anyway, I leave for New Jersey on sunday for formal training for about 7 weeks total. Ill actually be inbetween NJ and Scheveport La. Im not really looking forward to being gone that long but you gotta do....

Are you and Enrique still at CenTex? Im intrested to see whats going on there (as we all are im sure) Anyway, I hope you and your family is doing great!

Texans-Jaguars update

Robbie, I have an attorney here who does a lot of work for me whose firm has club seats for the Jaguars' games. She's offered me the use of them for the Texans game. I don't suppose there's any way we could get a refund for our tickets, could we? Even if we couldn't, the club seats sound nice and we could probably sell the ones you bought before the game. Unlike the Texans, the Jags are 2-1 and, though I doubt they'll be a threat to go to the Super Bowl, they at least look competitive.

She has put the seats on "reserve" for me for the time being. Either call me or put up a post with your thoughts.

Can't resist posting one more

I love this photo!

ACL Music Festival

Here's a picture of the back of the bus on the way to the Austin City Limits Music Festival this past weekend. As Jennifer mentioned, it was so damned hot there that we all almost fall out from heatstroke. It's funny, the heat here in Florida has already broken and it's only getting up to the mid-80s, at the highest. But September in Texas is the doggiest of the dog days. Anyway, we saw Aqualung play and, despite being almost delerious from the heat, enjoyed it. Jen, I went and bought thier CD, "Strange and Beautiful," and it's every bit as good as you would think.

When I get some free time, I'll upload all my photos and put the link here. Til then, be well!

Look Who's On The Scene

Hello there world. That's right, after a year or more a female contributor has been added to this previously all male blog! I hope that's ok with all of you boys!

I have enjoyed reading the Coop-blog, and I'm excited to be able to write too! I love being able to keep in touch with all my half-brothers!

James- I thoroughly enjoyed your visit to A-Town. Now that you know right where we are, your room will be ready anytime. You and Courtney both looked so good! She's grown up so tall and beautiful! And I loved getting to visit with you all about what's happening in our lives now- I'm really proud for the great strides you always make when opportunity strikes. Thanks for your upbeat comments on our progress. We are just that, a work in progress.

We're still recovering from ACL. Loved it, but the dust and heat was pretty bad. Carmen, Clarita, and Courtney were unanimous in their preference to be elsewhere. Carmen and Clartia have endured fevers and sore throats ever since, I hope Courntey has fared better.

I'll wrap up this first entry by saying thanks for letting me blog with you all. And don't go thinking you have to "clean up" just because I'm here, ok? I enjoy the lack of editing that I have seen on occasion. :) Know what I mean?

Robbie I'd love an update on your whereabouts, and the status of your houses. Mark do we want to try for Oct 8th? Mike I love you and miss you. I hear you're making some strides yourself. Let me hear about it, ok?

Love to you all!
Jenn

Cool!

Welcome Jen!

I'm looking forward to reading your posts. Don't hold back, now... Let us have it! This is a good place to just get it out. Here I'll show you:

DOOOGGG GONNITT!! CRAP!! CRRRAAAPPOLLA MANN! JIMMINNY CHRISTMAS! SONOVA MONKEY!! WHAT A BUNCH OF MALARKY!! FOR THE LOVE OF PEACHES!!!

Pardon me. That had to be done. I feel better...

Announcement

Hey guys. As the founder of Coopbros, it has troubled me that our fair internet clubhouse has been too “testerony” (yes, I know, the real San Francisco treat) for too long. Therefore, to remedy this gender imbalance, I have decided that Coopbros shall henceforth go coed! That’s right boys, this means we all have to put the toilet seat back down and wear bathing suits in the Coopbros hot tub from now on.

While enjoying her hospitality this past weekend, I was asked by our only fan Jennifer if she could post to our forum and I of course agreed. I have sent her an email invitation and look forward to our dear prima’s musings on all matters of import to her, both great and mundane.

Jen, again, thank you for letting me impose myself and Courtney upon you and your family at such short notice and for showing us such a good time! Take it away!

Time zones

Dudes, again, I live in Florida. That state is, with the exception of a small part of the panhandle, in the Eastern Time Zone. Also, you all know that I am an early bird. I get up at 4:45 am every weekday morning to hit the gym. That's 3:45 to y'all's dumb mindless asses. Thus, after dinner, I usually start fading really fast. I typically go to bed around 9:00 my time which is (say it with me y'all) 8:00 in Texas. If you call me after 8:00 your time during the week you're either going to wake me up or get my voicemail.

Mark, I have a really busy day mapped out. I will call you this evening before I flame out. In the meantime, what little Griffith told me about Faught is in the comments of the last post.

I've got somebody working on finding the tickets right now. As I told Robbie, I've also got tickets to the Orlando Magic/San Antonio Spurs game in December but being as they were given to me by this very hot Slovakian girl, y'all aren't invited to that ;-)

Sad news

Mark, Jeff Griffith called me yesterday. One of my old customers is raising hell and he wanted to see how much I remembered about the job. We were talking and he was catching me up on company and industry gossip when he told me that Jeff Faught passed away about 2 weeks ago.

Faught and I never exactly saw eye to eye--to put it mildly--but still, I am saddened to hear that he died. I think he was only like a few years older than I. Anyway, may God rest his soul.

No tickets yet

Mark, I moved to a new apartment this past weekend and have not ordered the tickets yet. Rob, how 'bout some confirmation that you're really up for this before I do?

BTW, my divorce will be final today.

Jax

James,

Did you order any tickets for the Jacksonville vs Houston game? I need to book a flight if so.

Rob, where are you on this? Mike we know you're out, like the gayrod you are...

Credit where it's due

Guys, I yield to no one when it comes to my loathing of all things burn't orange. I don't honestly know why I have this tissue rejection thing with them but I think it boils down to their arrogance and how they assume that since they're the University OF Texas that they're the only university IN Texas. Back in the '80s you would often see cars with window stickers that read simply "The University" in orange. Shit like that would set my teeth grinding. Since then, I have always made it a point to cut down, disparage, insult and just plain piss on anything that has to do with the Texas Longhorns.

My hate-UT bona fides thus established, I must also, to be fair, say that they have a very damned good football team. To go to Columbus, OH and beat the Ohio State Buckeyes in front of their own crowd is a very impressive feat, to put it mildly. And that Vince Young is something else too. He is what Reggie McNeal should be. It looks like this will finally be their year.

Great pictures, Mark! Looks like y'all had a nice time.

What the hell is up with A&M?

Since I was so overwhelmed by A&M’s heroic CHOKE against Clemson this past weekend, I went and rented ”Junction Boys” which had Tom Berenger playing Bear Bryant. Pretty cool movie. These current Aggies could stand a little dose of the Bear, I must say. When he wasn’t wearing own sphincter as a bow tie, Reggie McNeal ran the A&M offense through Clemson like they were standing in place. But, as soon as A&M would do something good, they go into a swoon again. I mean, Clemson went into the red zone 3 times and never scored a touchdown. The only touchdown A&M gave up was a cheap one off a punt return. That, and they still lost? Shit.

McNeal spent too much time this summer reading his own press clippings, I think. If they don’t wake up in a hurry, it will be a long season. Oklahoma will laugh at them, Tech will smoke them as usual and Texas won’t even need to show up to beat them again this coming November. What, I think they’ve beaten A&M like 5 times in a row now, right?

And speaking of Texas, what’s with these new “throwback” uniforms? Does Mack Brown think that dressing his crew like Darrell Royal’s early 60’s teams will finally get them past Oklahoma?

If y'all want to see a movie real bad,

then boy, have I got a real bad movie for you. If any of you for whatever reason feel the need to flush $7.50 and 90 minutes of your life down the toilet, then by all means check out "Sound of Thunder."

One wonders how certain movies get made. Time travel movies, for instance. I think every possible wrinkle of that idea has been explored in either movies or science fiction stories, ad infinitum. I think the last interesting wrinkle to the genre was done by Terry Gilliam in "12 Monkeys." Other than that though, it has all been done to death. Nevertheless, it is obviously still a reliable way to entice bored dumbasses like, uh, me in the theaters so the studios keep cranking them out. This one tries to breathe life into the shopworn time travel genre by adding dinosaurs to the mix. The idea is, a corporation develops time travel technology and uses it to send bored yuppies 65 million years into the past to shoot at, well, very big game. Nothing wrong with that idea; in fact, that was the basis for the nifty little Robert Heinlein short story upon which this movie is (very loosely) based. So, even though this sounds like another rehashing of "Jurassic Park," it's still got the potential to be a cool idea. But if you're going to do it, then for God's sake at least spend a little money on the special effects. The effects here, at least the dinosaurs, look like they're straight out of an old episode of "Land of the Lost." I shit you not, the dinosaur at the San Antonio Wax Museum is more lifelike than the one in this movie.

And a lot of "Sound of Thunder" is obviously shot in front of a green screen with the backgrounds digitally inserted later. That's fine, there's nothing wrong with that, either. To get an idea of how to do that and do it well, you have only to watch "Sin City," the whole of which was shot before a green screen. The characters in this movie walk around, ostensibly on a sidewalk in year 2055 Manhattan and you can literally see in their expressions that they don't believe it themselves. Your eyes tell you they're walking in this fantastic future city but their expressions say "I'm walking on a sound stage in front of a green screen."

I read an interview with Liam Neeson once where he talked about how tough green screen acting is because you have no scenery or props to play off of. As an actor, everything has to be in your mind because at the time you're shooting it, nothing's there. These actors, whether through lack of talent or competent direction, aren't up to it.

And for God's sake, can somebody please tell me why Ed Burns still has a career? Yeah, he was good in "Saving Private Ryan" but his was only a relatively small supporting role and the fact is that everybody was good in that movie. He has sucked in everything I've seen him in since then. This guy has little screen presence, no human warmth and comes across as only marginally more likeable than Steven Seagal. His scenes, especially the ones where he was supposedly in mortal peril from marauding dino-monkeys (don't ask) were so bad they made me cringe.

Not only a bad movie but a laughably bad movie. Jesus, I need a life.

On a lighter note!

Count me in for the November game! I look forward to a most victorious victory of the Texans of Houston narrowly defeating the Jaguars of Jacksonville by kicking an oblong leather ball through a big "H"

Also, Natalie and I set sail on our cruise this weekend. We are going to Alaska (dang, I should have grown a beard for this). I'll post some pics when we get back!

much luv

...

I'm not sure what can be said about this tragedy. It's hard to watch the news, but I know it is probably as bad (or worse) than what they are showing. I cannot imagine what those peope must be going through right now. I look at the stately roof over my head and wonder what I would do if it were wiped out in a matter of hours, we had no place to go, we had no communication nor transportation, and my family was hungry... The gravity of this thing keeps hitting me more and more.

Since people are pouring into the Metroplex, we are going to try to help here. I would encourage the same to you guys and everyone. James, it's good to hear you're helping out.

Katrina

Mikey, you’re out of my will. Of course, I don’t really have one, mind you, but I’ve always wanted to say that to someone. Rob and Mark, how about you two? I’m not buying tickets until I get confirmations.

Man, what I’m seeing on the TV about the hurricane is just heartbreaking. We have a whole city that is dying, 80% of New Orleans is under water and the looting is so bad and widespread that the governor has given shooting orders to the National Guard. This, in America; un-fucking-believable. It’s like straight out of “Lord of the Flies” or something.

Anyway, in addition to donating to the Red Cross, I gave blood the other day. Guys, if you’re able, please do what you can to help.

Also, for what it’s worth, I just found out that my divorce will be final on Sept. 14.
